Space, a rapidly changing field The space sector has been transformed over the past 20 years as a result of technological breakthroughs and changes to its economic model. Space and space applications are now everywhere. An increasing number of state and private actors are emerging and pursuing spectacular ambitions enabled by technological progress. Space is already a part of our daily lives: satellites orbiting the Earth allow us to know our position on the planet, observe it and communicate. They are also essential for the use of smart devices, autonomous vehicles, telehealth and remote surgery, shipping and defence. « Seeing the Earth from above is a powerful reminder of our interdependence. » Thomas Pesquet It is up to us, as inhabitants of Earth, to take our future into our own hands, because the matter is urgent. While new prospects are skyrocketing, so are the risks, and we must collectively set out a strong pathway for the sector’s development to ensure that the use of space is sustainable and benefits all.
