Biography

Nicolas Forissier was born on 17 February 1961. He is a graduate of the Paris Institute of Political Studies (Sciences Po)’s Public Service section and holds a degree in history from Paris-Sorbonne University, having taken a literature-focused programme at the Lycée Janson-de-Sailly high school. After completing his studies, he began his career in the communication and press sector, going on to create and manage several businesses in the printing sector and regional press.

Nicolas Forissier was elected a municipal councillor of La Châtre in 1989, then mayor from 1995 to 2017. He has dedicated his work to local development and rural regeneration. He was also president of the La Châtre – Sainte-Sévère urban community and the La Châtre en Berry inter-municipality cooperation body for almost two decades.

Having been a National Assembly Deputy for the Indre Department several times since 1993, and following his re-election in 2024, he served as rapporteur on the Foreign Affairs Committee concerning the “State External Action” government mission. He chaired the France-Argentina friendship group and took part actively in parliamentary work on France’s industrial competitiveness, economic sovereignty and economic attractiveness.

Nicolas Forissier has also held various government positions, as Minister of State attached to the Minister for Agriculture, Food, Fisheries and Rural Affairs (2004-2005), Interministerial Delegate for Agrifood and Agro-Industries (2006-2007) and National Mediator for the Agriculture Support Plan (2009-2010).

As a regional councillor in Centre-Val de Loire, he chairs the Finance Committee and the main opposition group (Union de la Droite, du Centre et des Indépendants). He has also chaired the Board of the French Foreign Trade Centre (CFCE) and Ubifrance, and been a member of Bpifrance’s national guidance committee.

Nicolas Forissier has dedicated his career to promoting the competitiveness of French businesses, local development and France’s global economic outreach.

In October 2025, he was appointed Minister Delegate for Foreign Trade and Economic Attractiveness, attached to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, in Sébastien Lecornu’s government.
