Jordan

Political relations

France and Jordan are bound by ties of friendship and trust. We share very similar views on many regional and international issues. We hold close and detailed dialogue, as seen through our regular high-level bilateral meetings.

King Abdullah II of Jordan has made several working visits to France since the election of President Macron: the first on 17 June 2017 (he was the first Arab Head of State to be received by President Macron) then in December 2017, in March and May 2019, for the Christchurch Call meeting, in January and September 2020, in September 2022, in February 2024, in March 2025, and then in June 2025 for the Third United Nations Ocean Conference in Nice. President Macron visited Jordan on 20 and 21 December 2022, then on 21 and 22 December 2023. The Crown Prince also made an official visit to France in October 2025 (first tête-à-tête with a Western Head of State).

These visits were an opportunity for in-depth dialogue on regional crises. France and Jordan highlighted their joint support for international mobilization against terrorism; the need to resume Israeli-Palestinian peace efforts and their commitment to the two-State solution; support for the transition in Syria; and their support for Iraq’s stability.

These visits demonstrated the quality of bilateral French-Jordanian relations and both countries’ commitment to deepening our bilateral cooperation. 

Economic relations

France is a leading foreign investor in Jordan and the leading investor from the European Union (with an estimated FDI stock of €1.7 billion in 2024). Some 30 companies have industrial or commercial subsidiaries. Our economic presence in Jordan is also supported by some 20 distributors or franchises of French brands in the sector of consumer goods (agrifood, luxury, clothing, cosmetics, hospitality, automobile).

In 2021, our exports were higher in number than during pre-Covid but fell between 2023 and 2024 (from €347 million in 2023 to €306 million in 2024). Our trade surplus was €264 million in 2024.
