Political relations

Our historical, diversified and high-quality relations, especially regarding science and culture, have been further strengthened by the many bilateral political meetings in recent years.

Economic relations

The French economic presence in Argentina is longstanding, strong and diversified: Some 250 subsidiaries are working there (53,000 jobs) and France is Argentina’s seventh-largest investor (€7.3 billion in foreign direct investment). Argentina is France’s fourth-largest trading partner in Latin America (€1.2 billion in trade in 2024).

Our companies have a particularly strong presence in the retailing and distribution, automotive, grains and oil seeds, agrifood, hydrocarbons, mining and renewables, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, telecommunications, digital technology and transport industries.

Argentina has strong potential in the area of critical minerals, particularly lithium (fourth-largest global producer, third-largest reserves) and copper. Many French investments have been made in this sector in recent years (particularly Eramet’s investment of $900 million in 2024). The signing of a declaration of intent on critical minerals, in June 2025, reflects the high level of trust between our countries in this area and comes at a critical time when other countries are seeking to establish a foothold in this sector in Argentina.
