The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs welcomes the entry into force today of the Franco-British agreement on dangerous Channel crossings.

The aim of the agreement, which marks a new step in cooperation between France and the United Kingdom, is to break the economic model of the smuggling rings exploiting extreme poverty and endangering migrants’ lives. It sends a signal of deterrence to potential illegal immigrants while reopening legal access routes to the UK.

The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs welcomes the excellent, strengthened cooperation between France and the United Kingdom, demonstrated by President Macron’s state visit to the UK from July 8 to 10.
