After a festive public opening in Marseille, the Mediterranean Season will offer over 200 events in over 60 French cities between 15 May and 31 October 2026.

Led by general commissioner Julie Kretzschmar, the Season will take place on the shores of the Mediterranean with many events linked to art scenes, the cultural structures of the region and the French diplomatic network abroad.

In autumn 2026, the Mediterranean Season will hold events in five Mediterranean countries (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt and Lebanon) promoted by the French diplomatic and cultural network in collaboration with local agencies and infrastructures. It will also receive contributions from several countries in the region.

The Mediterranean Season, reflecting cultural diplomacy

The Mediterranean Season 2026 reflects the beliefs of our cultural diplomacy strategy: culture is a space for both freedom and creation, a way to express our values and a means of dialogue. It promotes freedom of expression and creation, cultural diversity and multilingualism, gender equality and inclusion, the culture of debate, the preservation of global public goods and the integrity of information. It plays a role in social cohesion and economic development, is one of the foundations upon which we live together and helps bring stability.

The aim of the Mediterranean Season is to highlight the rich diversity of Mediterranean cultures in an all-new format. It celebrates artists, creators and young talents from these regions by promoting cultural and human exchanges and encouraging shared projects on the shores of the Mediterranean.

As a new cycle of conflicts has begun in the Eastern Mediterranean, by celebrating the young people in the region, diasporas and contemporary creations as our shared culture, this Season aims to lay the foundations for a vibrant, long-term partnership. It also recalls France’s Mediterranean identity, firmly rooting it in the future of the region.
