North Macedonia – Meeting between Amélie de Montchalin and Nikola Dimitrov (Paris, 9 September 2019)

Amélie de Montchalin, Minister of State for European Affairs attached to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, received Nikola Dimitrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of North Macedonia, yesterday.

This meeting provided an opportunity to take stock of North Macedonia’s EU prospects. Amélie de Montchalin reiterated France’s position on the rapprochement between the countries of the Western Balkans and the EU, and notably underscored the need to ensure full respect for the rule of law, which is at the heart of European values, and to continue reforms.

The minister of state reaffirmed France’s commitment to supporting lasting stabilization, economic and social development and the strengthening of the rule of law in the Western Balkans, building on the French strategy for the region.
