The first France-Poland Friendship Day is taking place on 20 April 2026 to mark the revitalization of the relationship between the two European countries, bound by the Treaty of Nancy.

Established upon the signature of the Treaty of Nancy on 9 May 2025, France-Poland Friendship Day is set on 20 April, the anniversary of the entry into the Pantheon of Marie Skłodowska-Curie in 1995.

France-Poland Friendship Day pays tribute to the historic depth of the Franco-Polish relationship, symbolized by many well-known figures, including Marie Skłodowska-Curie, Frédéric Chopin and Stanislas Leszczynski, as well as many unknown people: Polish workers who arrived in France in the early 20th century and soldiers of our two nations fighting for freedom in Europe, for example. Over the centuries, this relationship has manifested as solidarity in arms and a shared commitment against totalitarian regimes. Our friendship is thus based on a common history and shared values.

The Franco-Polish partnership is also part of a shared vision of the role of the European Union for the future. It draws on an ambition of unity for a sovereign, prosperous, democratic and safe Europe. It is also founded on mutual commitment to multilateralism, a rules-based international order and the defence of the fundamental principles of democracy, equality, freedom and the rule of law.

The Treaty of Nancy was signed on 9 May 2025 by the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, and the Polish Prime Minister, Donald Tusk, in the presence of the Minister Delegate for Europe, Benjamin Haddad.
