This historic vote reflects the will of the international community to commit to implementing an ambitious roadmap for the peace and security of everyone in the region. The Declaration adopted by the General Assembly reflects the unprecedented support from the majority of the international community for such fundamental principles as a call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the release of all hostages, and the creation of a sovereign and viable Palestinian State. For the first time, a text adopted by the United Nations condemned the attacks committed by Hamas on 7 October 2023 and called for its disarmament and exclusion from the governance of Gaza. The New York Declaration is the result of work at the United Nations High-Level International Conference on the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, which was co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia and took place from 28 to 30 July 2025. This work will be continued in New York on 22 September, with the President of the French Republic present.
