Algeria – Sentencing of Boualem Sansal on appeal

France regrets the upholding, on appeal, of the prison sentence handed down at first instance to our compatriot Boualem Sansal.

This decision is both incomprehensible and unjustified.

France calls on the Algerian authorities to make a gesture of clemency and find a swift, humanitarian, decent solution to our compatriot’s situation, taking into account his state of health and humanitarian considerations. Our wish is for him to be released and given treatment.
