France’s imports from Liechtenstein (€171 million) logically followed a similar trend, with a 10% rise in 2021 following a fall of 21% between 2018 and 2020. France’s trade deficit with Liechtenstein stood at €155 million in 2021. Bilateral trade is primarily driven by French imports of automobile equipment manufactured in Liechtenstein, worth €91 million in 2021, which account for more than half of France’s imports and almost half of all trade with the country. Liechtenstein-based companies employ nearly 2,500 people in France. Trade is dominated by the companies Hilti (tools for the construction sector) and Ivoclar Vivadent AG (equipment for dentists), as well as local subsidiaries of Swarovski, Intamin and ThyssenKrupp AG In 2022, France accounted for Liechtenstein’s third-largest trade surplus, behind Germany and the United States. France is Liechtenstein’s twelfth-largest supplier and fifth-largest customer. An agreement on the exchange of tax information was signed by France and Liechtenstein in Vaduz on 22 September 2009 and entered into force on 19 August 2010.
