Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Catherine Colonna spoke today with UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Martin Griffiths.

The minister and Mr. Griffiths discussed the humanitarian situation in Ukraine and the consequences of Russia’s war of aggression against that country, which directly threaten food security in a number of countries. She expressed France’s support for UN efforts to facilitate the export of 16.5 tons of grain currently blocked in Ukraine as a result of the Russian aggression.

The minister reminded Mr. Griffiths of France’s efforts regarding food security, nutrition and sustainable agricultural development as food security continues to deteriorate worldwide. Their conversation touched on the implementation of the Food and Agriculture Resilience Mission (FARM) initiative launched by President Macron and endorsed by the European Council in conjunction with other initiatives taken by the international community to deal with the food crisis.

The minister also presented EU actions taken under the French EU Council presidency to help Ukraine export its agricultural products, including the establishment of “Solidarity Lanes.” In addition, she spoke about efforts to mobilize the private sector launched by the agriculture minister in Paris yesterday.
