Council of Europe – Candidacy of Pierre-Yves Le Borgn’ for the post of Commissioner for Human Rights (18 October 2017)

France is submitting the candidacy of Pierre-Yves Le Borgn’, former deputy and former member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, for the post of Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights.

France, which is a founding member of the Council of Europe, and the country in which its headquarters is located, has close ties with this organization. While the defense and promotion of human rights throughout the European continent remain priorities, it thereby signals its commitment to the key role played by the commissioner for human rights.

The incumbent of this post, which was created in 1999, promotes respect for human rights in the organization’s 47 member states.

We pay tribute to the work carried out since 2011 by the current commissioner, Nils Muiznieks. We are convinced that Pierre-Yves Le Borgn’ has the experience and determination required for this role. As deputy and member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, he demonstrated his unwavering commitment to human rights and his expertise in this field.
