UN – Election of Philémon Yang as president of the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (11 June 2024)
France congratulates Philémon Yang, the former prime minister of Cameroon, on his June 6th election by acclamation as president of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, starting on September 10. He will succeed Dennis Francis, Trinidad and Tobago’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
France looks forward to working closely with Mr. Yang on all the issues monitored by the UN General Assembly. It counts on his commitment to multilingualism and to a revitalized multilateral system, of which the United Nations is the linchpin. As we approach the Summit of the Future and the 80th anniversary of the United Nations, it is our responsibility to work collectively to tackle current and future challenges.
