Strong upturn in french foreign trade in the third quarter of 2025: a decisive contribution to growth (3 November 2025)
The results published by INSEE [French National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies] confirm the strong progress in French foreign trade in the third quarter of 2025. In an international context that is still uncertain, French exports are up 2.2% compared to the previous quarter, while imports have decreased 0.4%. Foreign trade is therefore making a positive contribution of 0.9 of a percentage point to GDP growth, after two quarters where it fell back.
Nicolas Forissier, Minister Delegate for Foreign Trade and Economic Attractiveness, says: “These results demonstrate the vitality of our economy internationally and our companies’ ability to win new contracts despite geopolitical tensions. The momentum of French exports supports growth and strengthens France’s place among the major European trading powers.”
The growth in exports of transport equipment, particularly in the aerospace sector, and the good performance of the chemical and pharmaceutical industries illustrate the dynamism of our sectors of excellence. These results reflect the practical effects of long-standing policies aimed at strengthening competitiveness and supporting businesses with their exports.
"We must continue this collective mobilization,” emphasizes the Minister. “In the face of economic and geopolitical uncertainties, it’s more essential than ever to support our strategic industries and guarantee conditions for fair global competition. Foreign trade is a major lever in terms of sovereignty and prosperity for our country.”
While the momentum is encouraging, Jean-Noël Barrot, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, and Nicolas Forissier, Minister Delegate for Foreign Trade and Economic Attractiveness, remain mindful of the persistent challenges, particularly in the agricultural and agrifood industries, which are facing trade tensions and declining trade balances.
