Chrysoula Zacharopoulou, Minister of State for Development, Francophonie and International Partnerships, attached to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, met on August 29 with civil society organizations dealing with health issues.

The Minister emphasized her desire to systematically include civil society organizations in discussions and actions related to global health. She reaffirmed President Macron’s commitment to health as a global public good.

This initial conversation covered a broad range of topics. With regard to replenishing the resources of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, she noted that France is historically the Fund’s second-largest donor and its top European donor, with more than €6 billion allocated to date. President Macron largely contributed to the success of its latest replenishment effort, in Lyon. She stressed that France would maintain this commitment, especially in the area of strengthening healthcare systems.

Ms. Zacharopoulou also spoke about development assistance for health, women’s health, and the key role played by these organizations as stakeholders in the health sector. These discussions will continue and will contribute to France’s 2023-2027 global health strategy.
