On February 20, Chrysoula Zacharopoulou, Minister of State for Development, Francophonie and International Partnerships, attached to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, visited the Institut Pasteur to discuss global health challenges, preparation for future pandemics and international cooperation on health and research. She underscored the fundamental role played by the Institut Pasteur and the Pasteur Network abroad through public health partnerships between France and Africa, especially with regard to the production of vaccines on the African continent.

During her visit, the Minister welcomed the announcement that the Pasteur Institute was sending a group of scientists to the Pasteur Institute in Turkey in the aftermath of the earthquake. These volunteers from the Emergency Biological Intervention Unit (CIBU) and scientists from several research units will monitor for infectious diseases and provide rapid diagnoses for local populations. They will carry out this task, which will last at least three months, under the mandate of the World Health Organization.
