On 25 January 2018, the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs will kick off the third Nuit des Idées – Night of Ideas – with a public event.

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, guest of honour

The Ministry will welcome Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. She will talk about her work and activism, notably in favour of gender equality and the place of African countries in globalization.

The audience will then be invited on a tour of the Quai d’Orsay, home to the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Born on 15 September 1977 in Enugu, Nigeria, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has written several award winning novels and short fiction collections, including Purple Hibiscus, The Thing Around Your Neck and Americanah.

Her works denounce the violence of history and the ethnic and religious tensions in contemporary Nigeria, and tackle the issue of race and the challenges surrounding immigration in the United States. She takes a pro-active stance on the place of African countries in globalization. Her widely acclaimed December 2012 Ted Talk entitled "We should all be feminists" helped significantly in bringing her to prominence.

The Nuit des Idées in France and around the world

Organized on five continents simultaneously, La Nuit des Idées – The Night of Ideas celebrates the movement of ideas between countries and cultures, disciplines and generations. Every year it is an opportunity to discover the latest knowledge, listen to those who are driving ideas in every field and discuss the key issues of our times. In a reflection of the fluid nature of ideas, all forms of event are welcome from conferences to theatre, performances, screenings, concerts, etc. and all locations from the most prestigious to the most unusual are invited to join the party by proposing their original interpretation of the proposed theme. As the night sweeps across the globe, the Night of Ideas will be broadcast on social networks making the Night of Ideas a global event.
