France welcomes the announcement made by the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Yemen, Mr Hans Grundberg, of a two-month truce in Yemen. It notes that all the parties to the conflict responded favourably to the United Nations’ proposal for a truce.
This is a major step forward which should ease the suffering of the Yemeni people, and brings hope.
We reiterate our full support for the United Nations’ efforts to bring about a permanent ceasefire, for the discussions due to take place on the issue thanks to this truce, and for an inclusive, lasting political solution.
France calls on all the parties to take part in the political process under the aegis of the United Nations. It commends the efforts made by the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (CCASG) to bring about dialogue between Yemenis, in support of the United Nations’ efforts.
