Ukraine – Condemnation of the latest Russian airstrikes (21 August 2025)

France strongly condemns the Russian airstrikes that mostly targeted western Ukraine during the early hours of August 21. According to provisional estimates, the attack killed one person and left several dozen injured in the Lviv and Transcarpathia oblasts.

Although Russia claims it is ready to negotiate, it is continuing its deadly attacks on Ukrainian territory, launching 574 drones and 40 missiles at residential areas.

These attacks – the most massive in a month – illustrate Russia’s unwillingness to commit seriously to peace talks. They attest once again to the need to end the killing, and therefore to maintain and step up pressure on Russia. France reaffirms its support for President Trump’s initiative to achieve a just and lasting peace and will continue to stand squarely with Ukraine and its partners.
