Tunisia – Attack in Djerba (10 May 2023)

France was appalled and deeply saddened to learn of the attack perpetrated at the El Ghriba synagogue in Djerba, which claimed the lives of four people including one French national, worshippers and members of the Tunisian security forces.

It utterly condemns this heinous act, perpetrated during an annual Jewish pilgrimage and painfully echoing the suicide attack that killed 21 people in the same synagogue in 2002.

We extend our sincerest condolences to the bereaved and express our wholehearted solidarity with the Tunisian people and authorities. Our embassy and staff are mobilized to lend their support to our compatriot’s family and our fellow citizens affected by the attack.

We pay tribute to the swift intervention by the Tunisian security forces and stand by Tunisia in continuing the fight against anti-Semitism and all forms of fanaticism.
