Mme Catherine Colonna, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, had a meeting today with her Tajik counterpart, Mr Sirojiddin Muhriddin.

The Minister reiterated France’s commitment to stability in Central Asia. She also voiced her concern following the armed clashes in September between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan and emphasized the need for the two countries to settle their border disputes through negotiation.

The ministers also discussed regional issues and shared their concerns about the worsening situation in Afghanistan, particularly as regards the rights of Afghan women. The Minister indicated France’s willingness to support Tajikistan in making its border with Afghanistan secure.

As France and Tajikistan this year celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations, the Minister welcomed the strengthening of our bilateral political dialogue and expressed our willingness to organize a session of political consultations soon between the two foreign ministries. Finally, the Minister called for the implementation of the road map for development and cooperation between France and Tajikistan, signed in 2021, to be continued.
