Do Syrian nationals in France have the right to vote in the Syrian presidential election?

As we and our European partners have said repeatedly, we stand ready to support the holding of free and fair elections in Syria in accordance with Security Council Resolution 2254 and under UN supervision in which all Syrians could take part, including displaced persons, refugees and Syrians living abroad.

But elections organized in Syria proper or abroad by the Syrian regime, such as last year’s legislative elections and the presidential elections slated for the near future, meet none of these criteria.

For us, they are therefore null and void and have no reason to take place. They contribute neither to the political legitimacy of the Syrian regime nor to ending the crisis in Syria.
