France welcomes the signing on October 3 in Juba of the peace agreements between the transitional government of Sudan and the armed movements. These agreements are an essential first step toward restoring peace in Darfur and in the two regions of South Kordofan and Blue Nile following many years of deadly conflict.
The signatory parties must now work toward implementing the provisions of these agreements as swiftly as possible in order to establish lasting peace in all regions of the country and to promote reconciliation between all Sudanese people.
France reaffirms its full support for the democratic transition underway in Sudan and stands ready to help the Sudanese authorities facilitate the proper implementation of the peace agreements. It reiterates its appeal to the movements that have not signed the October 3 agreements to join the peace process in Sudan and to contribute to the reconciliation efforts between all Sudanese people.
