France regrets the lack of an agreement between Serbia and Kosovo following the November 21st meeting in Brussels under the auspices of the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell.

We join in the EU’s calls to avoid taking any unilateral actions that are liable to exacerbate tensions. We urge the two parties, and particularly Kosovo, to accept the compromise proposal formulated by the EU.

France fully supports the European mediation effort which must facilitate progress toward a comprehensive, legally binding agreement between Serbia and Kosovo and enhance the two countries’ European prospects. We strongly urge the parties to continue their discussions in the coming days in a spirit of compromise and to implement the agreements that have already been reached, including the provisions relating to the Association/Community of Serb-Majority Municipalities.
