Saudi Arabia – Attack on Abha Airport (12 June 2019)

France condemns this morning’s attack, which targeted Abha Airport in southwestern Saudi Arabia. The Houthis claimed credit for this attack, which injured more than 20 civilians, including children. France expresses its solidarity with Saudi Arabia in the face of these attacks on the security of its territory and its people. These attacks must stop.

France calls on all the parties to refrain from any escalation liable to further destabilize the region. It again underscores the urgent need to end the conflict in Yemen, the only way to do so being a negotiated political solution. It actively supports the mediation effort led by UN Special Envoy Martin Griffiths, and asks all the parties to work with him constructively to implement all the commitments agreed to in Stockholm in December 2018.
