Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Catherine Colonna will travel to Niger on July 15 with Minister for the Armed Forces Sébastien Lecornu.

This is the two ministers’ first joint visit to Niger, a country with which France has a close, trust-based partnership. The main purpose of this visit is to demonstrate France’s solidarity and readiness to respond to requests from Niger relating to humanitarian aid, support for concrete projects that assist young people and boost employment, and backing for the Nigerien armed forces in the fight against terrorism.

The ministers will be hosted by President Mohamed Bazoum and will meet with their counterparts, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Hassoumi Massaoudou and Minister of National Defense Alkassoum Indatou.

Ms. Colonna and Mr. Lecornu will visit a healthcare facility that receives assistance from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the World Food Programme (WFP) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to combat food insecurity, with French support.

Ms. Colonna will also meet with the French community in Niger for a discussion with our fellow citizens.
