Jean-Yves Le Drian, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, is visiting Valletta on July 24 where he will be received by Maltese President George Vella. He will meet with his Maltese counterpart, Evarist Bartolo, and Maltese Minister for Home Affairs and National Security Byron Camilleri.

These meetings will provide an opportunity to discuss key foreign policy issues of common interest, especially Libya, the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean, as well as migration. The minister will reaffirm France’s solidarity with respect to the management of migration flows with Malta and our determination to strengthen our political dialogue in order to ease tensions in the region and promote a united European position.

Jean-Yves Le Drian will thank Evarist Bartolo for the assistance provided by Malta to France during the Covid-19 health crisis and will discuss with his counterpart key bilateral issues, notably including our economic, cultural and linguistic cooperation, two years after Malta was granted observer status in the International Organization of La Francophonie.
