Sunday will mark journalist Olivier Dubois’s 500th day of captivity in Mali. What impact might the end of Operation Barkhane have on his situation? How can you assure us that everything is being done to obtain his release? Can we hope for his release in the near future?

The withdrawal of Barkhane forces from Mali in no way diminishes France’s commitment to obtain Olivier Dubois’s release. The French President’s Office stated this clearly in its press release of August 15.

As Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Catherine Colonna reiterated in her August 5th interview with Libération, all efforts are being made to obtain our compatriot’s release. The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs is in regular contact with his family, his parents, his sisters and his companion.

As you know, when it comes to abductions and hostage-taking, discretion is vital to the effectiveness of government efforts and the individual’s safety.
