Lebanon – Incident against UNIFIL peacekeepers (07.11.24)
France condemns the November 7th incident that left peacekeepers physically injured, following an attack that took place close to a United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) convoy near Saida, despite the prior communication of the convoy’s itinerary.
Five Malaysian peacekeepers were injured. Five other peacekeepers had already been injured over the past several weeks following deliberate Israeli attacks, which are unjustifiable and must cease.
The protection of peacekeepers and the safety and security of UN personnel, property and premises must be guaranteed. UNIFIL must be able to fully carry out its mandate, including its ability to exercise freedom of movement.
In this particularly difficult situation, we commend the bravery, professionalism and continued commitment of UNIFIL personnel.
France calls for a cessation of hostilities founded on the complete implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 in order to enable displaced people in Israel and Lebanon to safely return home.
