France strongly condemns the Israeli army drone attack in which four sound grenades were dropped near a United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) detachment on September 2.

This attack occurred shortly after the UN Security Council voted unanimously on August 28 to renew UNIFIL’s mandate at France’s initiative, reflecting the vital role that the force plays in the stabilization of Lebanon and the region.

France emphasizes that the protection of peacekeepers and the security of UN personnel, assets and premises must be guaranteed under international law and resolution 1701. UNIFIL must be able to fully carry out its mandate and exercise its freedom of movement.

At this difficult time, France hails the bravery, professionalism and unwavering dedication of UNIFIL personnel.

France stresses that all parties without exception are required to abide by the ceasefire in order to guarantee the security of civilian populations on both sides of the Blue Line and calls on Israel to fully withdraw from Lebanon in accordance with the agreement signed on November 27, 2024.
