France condemns in the strongest terms the unacceptable attack on a vehicle belonging to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon during the night of 14-15 February, during which the force’s deputy commander was injured. France expresses its support to him and wishes him a swift recovery.

France calls on the Lebanese security forces to ensure the safety of the blue helmets, and on the Lebanese justice system to investigate this unacceptable attack and prosecute the perpetrators.

France recalls that the protection of peacekeeping troops and the safety and security of United Nations staff, assets and property must be guaranteed.

Any attack against the UNIFIL peacekeepers is a violation of international law and Resolution 1701. We reiterate that attacks against peacekeepers may be considered war crimes.

France commends the bravery, professionalism and continued commitment of UNIFIL to foster peace and stability in Lebanon, and maintain the ceasefire with Israel.
