Israel / Palestinian Territories: International Stabilization Mission (August 12, 2025)
The Israeli government’s recent announcement that it would pursue a military occupation of northern Gaza would be both rash and disastrous if implemented, and the Israeli hostages and Gaza’s civilian populations would once again be its primary victims.
In order to avoid that situation, at the UN Conference in late July the signatory countries of the New York Declaration expressed their support for the deployment of a temporary international stabilization mission whose aim would be to ensure the security of Israelis and Palestinians, and to help implement the two-state solution.
At President Macron’s behest, France is working with its partners and the UN to establish this mission and change the equation in Gaza. France proposes that it take the form of an international coalition under the mandate of the UN Security Council and that it be led by regional partners. It would be a credible path toward ending the ongoing war and building a lasting peace in the region.
Gaza’s future must lie within a future Palestinian State led by the Palestinian Authority. France is committed to the implementation of the two-state solution, the only solution likely to guarantee lasting peace and security for Israelis and Palestinians. The war must end now with a permanent ceasefire.
