Iran - Minister’s meeting with Mr Abbas Araghchi, Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs (26 November 2025)
M. Jean-Noël Barrot, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, had a meeting with his Iranian counterpart, Mr Abbas Araghchi, in Paris today, Wednesday 26 November 2025.
The Minister talked about the situation of Cécile Kohler and Jacques Paris and emphasized the need for our two nationals, who are currently at the French Embassy in Tehran, to return to France as soon as possible.
The Minister reiterated the deep concern of France and its partners regarding the Iranian nuclear programme. He called on Iran to return immediately to compliance with its safeguards obligations and fully cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The Minister recalled France’s steadfast commitment, alongside its European and American partners, to a diplomatic solution. He called on Iran to return to the negotiating table with a view to concluding a robust, lasting agreement guaranteeing that Iran will never acquire nuclear weapons.
The two ministers also discussed regional issues. The Minister signalled our desire to support Lebanon on the path towards strengthening its sovereignty and security, consolidate the ceasefire in Gaza and recreate a credible prospect for implementing the two-state solution.
