Iran – Arbitrary arrests (15 Jul. 2022)

Three leading Iranian film-makers, Mr Jafar Panahi, Mr Mohammad Rasoulof and Mr Mostafa Aleahmad, were arbitrarily arrested in Iran on 8 and 11 July 2022.

France is highly concerned about these arrests and those of other Iranian figures committed to defending freedom of expression in their country. The arrests illustrate the worrying deterioration in the situation of artists in Iran.

France calls for the immediate release of these figures and calls on the Iranian authorities to comply with their international commitments, in particular to guarantee the full exercise of freedom of expression and creativity.
