Cambodia / Thailand – Ceasefire and release of Cambodian soldiers (December 31, 2025)
France welcomes the December 31 release of 18 Cambodian soldiers who had been held in Thailand since July. Their return to Cambodia is an important step in the implementation of the ceasefire between the two countries, which has been in force since December 27, following the General Border Committee’s meeting.
In order to consolidate the ceasefire and ensure the full implementation of the declaration signed in Kuala Lumpur on October 26, France encourages the two parties to continue their dialogue and to comply with their international commitments, particularly with regard to demining, the return of displaced persons and the fight against online scam centers.
We call on them to continue taking all necessary measures to peacefully resolve the conflict in a manner that respects international law and guarantees the protection of civilians on both sides of the border.
Standing with both countries and the ASEAN presidency, France will continue to support efforts to achieve a lasting peace.
