Cambodia/Thailand – Adoption of a peace declaration in Kuala Lumpur (October 27, 2025)
France applauds the October 26, 2025, adoption of a peace declaration between Cambodia and Thailand, under the aegis of the United States and Malaysia’s ASEAN chairmanship, on the sidelines of the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur. This declaration will allow Cambodia and Thailand to resolve their border dispute using peaceful means, which is necessary for the stability of the region.
In particular, France hails the signing of the Terms of Reference for the ASEAN Observer Team, which will speed up the on-the-ground implementation of the two parties’ commitments to withdraw heavy weapons from the border and continue de-mining, as well as Thailand’s announcement that the country would be releasing its prisoners of war.
France, along with its partners in ASEAN and the United States, will be paying close attention to the implementation of these commitments, as well as the ongoing efforts to use dialogue to resolve the border dispute between the two parties, in accordance with international law.
