Benin – Attempted coup d’état (7 december 2025)

France condemns the attempted coup d’état in Benin on Sunday 7 December. Like the African Union and ECOWAS, whose efforts it supports, it calls for compliance with the constitutional order and for the normal functioning of the institutions.

It is working actively to guarantee the safety of the French community in Benin, and calls on them to take the greatest possible care.
