Armenia/Azerbaijan – Negotiations between foreign ministers (12 May 2024)
France welcomes the holding of another session of negotiations between the Armenian and Azerbaijani foreign ministers in Almaty on 10 and 11 May.
France highlights the importance of the Parties’ reaffirmation of their commitment to the 1991 Alma-Ata Declaration and to the mutual recognition of their territorial integrity, as a basis for this process, in line with the quadrilateral meeting in Prague on 7 October 2022.
In this context, it calls for border delimitation to be continued, on the basis of the principles agreed in the statement of 19 April 2024 and following on from initial delimitation work carried out on the ground. At the same time, it calls for discussions to be continued with a view to the signing of a peace treaty between the two countries.
We welcome the Kazakhstani authorities’ initiative to facilitate the holding of these talks.
France will go on working alongside its partners to promote the establishment of a just, lasting peace in the South Caucasus, with due regard for international law.
