Algeria – Sentencing of Christophe Gleizes (June 30, 2025)

France deeply regrets the harsh seven-year prison sentence handed down against French journalist Christophe Gleizes. His attorney and supporters have said that he will appeal the decision.

The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs has been closely following our compatriot’s situation ever since he was arrested in Algeria in May 2024, and he received consular assistance and protection while the judicial control order was in effect. The entire consulate stands ready to assist him and is maintains regular contact with him, his loved ones and his legal counsel. It filed a request to visit him as soon as his sentence was announced.
