Press release by Mr Clément Beaune, Minister of State for European Affairs and Ms Jeanne Barseghian, Mayor of Strasbourg (8 Sept. 20)
Given the current public health situation, the European Parliament has decided not to hold the next plenary session in Strasbourg (14 to 17 September 2020). We regretfully take note of this decision.
In recent weeks, France, the City of Strasbourg and the local governments have worked together closely to enable the European Parliament to return swiftly to its official seat, in compliance with health regulations and following strict protocol. The French authorities will continue to work toward this outcome, for the safety of the residents of Strasbourg and Parliament staff.
France is deeply committed to the European Parliament seat and calls for a prompt return to plenary sessions in Strasbourg, in accordance with the treaties. The President of the European Parliament made this commitment today, and we will be closely following its implementation.
