The One Planet Movement

In the light of the climate emergency, the objectives of the Paris Agreement signed in 2015 to contain global warming below 2°C must be kept.

At the initiative of President Emmanuel Macron, UN Secretary-General António Guterres and World Bank President Jim Yong Kim stood together to launch in December 2017 the One Planet movement, uniting public and private stakeholders.

This movement must not be considered in isolation, but rather in synergy with the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP) which brings together States.

Less than one year after the first One Planet Summit, the second brings together Heads of State and Government, business leaders and other non-State players in New York to report back on the implementation of the commitments made in December 2017. The aim is to build trust and collaboration in support of the climate, to highlight the progress that has been achieved, and to further mobilize the movement’s stakeholders.

The second One Planet Summit will be held on 26 September 2018 on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

During the first One Planet Summit, the participants made 12 commitments aiming as a priority to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect the most vulnerable populations, which are the first victims of climate change. Learn more about the 12 commitments in action
