Syria – Attack in Damascus (22 June 2025)

France condemns in the strongest terms the heinous terrorist attack targeting St Elias Church in Damascus and its worshippers gathered for mass on Sunday 22 June 2025.

France extends its condolences to the bereaved and wishes the injured a speedy recovery. It expresses its wholehearted solidarity with the Syrian people, who would like Syria to return to the path of peace. It reiterates its great friendship with the region’s Christians, whom it has always stood by.

It restates its commitment to a transition in Syria that enables Syrians, whatever their denomination, to live in peace and security in a free, united, plural, prosperous, stable and sovereign Syria. It reaffirms its commitment to the fight against Islamist terrorism in Syria, particularly in the framework of the Coalition Against Daesh, and stands ready to lend all necessary support to the Syrian authorities to this end.
