Western Sahara - Q&A from the press briefing (17 November 2020)

Q: The day after the Ministry called for doing everything possible to avoid an escalation in the Western Sahara, the head of the Polisario announced the end of the ceasefire. What is France proposing in order to avoid an escalation?

A: France is closely monitoring events in Guerguerat. It has publicly expressed its concern over the blockade of this border crossing and reaffirms the importance of the free movement of goods and people in the area. It takes note of the measures taken by Morocco.

France welcome’s Morocco’s commitment to the ceasefire. It must be preserved, just as the political process must be revived within the UN framework.

The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs is staying in touch with his counterparts in the region.
