New Zealand – Conversation between Jean-Yves Le Drian and Ms. Mahuta (May 3)

Jean-Yves Le Drian, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, met via video conference with Nanaia Mahuta, Minister of Foreign Affairs of New Zealand, on May 3.

The minister spoke with his counterpart about the fruitful bilateral cooperation between our two countries, notably in the Pacific region. The two ministers reaffirmed the support of France and New Zealand for the ACT-A initiative to combat the Covid-19 pandemic and to facilitate access to vaccines by all countries.

Reaffirming their determination to work together to support inclusive multilateralism, the ministers discussed cooperation on climate and biodiversity and reaffirmed the importance of the Christchurch Call of 2019 as we approach the second anniversary of this foundational initiative launched by President Macron and the prime minister of New Zealand to combat terrorist content online. The minister welcomed New Zealand’s decision to co-sponsor the marine protected area project in East Antarctica.
