Launch of “Patrimoine de la Diplomatie” certification to showcase sites nationwide that played a role in diplomatic history (5 June 2025)
On June 5 in Versailles, the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs inaugurated the first site to receive the “Patrimoine de la Diplomatie” (“Diplomatic Heritage”) label: the Choiseul Library in Versailles, which housed the Foreign Ministry’s first permanent headquarters during the Ancien Régime.
The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs introduced this initiative aimed at labeling remarkable sites nationwide that have served as the setting for diplomatic events.
With a combined focus on history and remembrance, these labels will evoke the past in a way that sheds light on major current geopolitical upheavals and promotes understanding of France’s activities abroad over the long term.
Each year, a label will be awarded to some 10 sites. Their selection will reflect the country’s diverse regions, eras, and the forms of diplomacy practiced by France over the centuries.
QR codes posted on dedicated plaques will provide information to visitors that will help them understand what took place at the various locations.
All of the 2025 selections will be announced on September 19 – the eve of European Heritage Days.
As a central part of this initiative, citizens are invited to flag remarkable sites throughout France by sending a message to patrimoine.diplomatie at diplomatie.gouv.fr
Details about this project can be found on the Foreign Ministry website.
