G20 South Africa – Minister’s meeting with his Egyptian counterpart, Dr Badr Abdelatty (23 November 2023)
M. Jean-Noël Barrot, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, had a meeting with his Egyptian counterpart, Dr Badr Abdelatty, on 23 November 2025, on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Johannesburg.
During the discussion, the two ministers reiterated their determination to contribute fully to the implementation of the US peace plan for Gaza – now endorsed by United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803 – in its humanitarian, political and security aspects. They called on the parties to fully implement the ceasefire and emphasized the importance of ensuring compliance with international law and international humanitarian law. They recalled the importance of Gaza’s lasting stabilization and of recreating a political horizon to that end, on the basis of the two-state solution. The two ministers reaffirmed their support for the Palestinian Authority with a view to its return to Gaza. They agreed to work together at the conference on humanitarian action and Gaza’s recovery which Egypt would like to hold soon. Lastly, the two ministers condemned the unprecedented level of violence perpetrated by extremist settlers in the West Bank and the furtherance of settlement activity in the Palestinian Territories.
The two ministers also confirmed their commitment to bilateral cooperation in the handling of other regional crises, including in Lebanon and the Horn of Africa and on the issue of Iran’s nuclear programme. They also spoke about the 10th regional forum of the Union for the Mediterranean, a key moment in Euro-Mediterranean cooperation.
Finally, the two ministers welcomed the prospects for strengthening bilateral cooperation, in the framework of implementing the strategic partnership signed between the two presidents in April 2025.
