Terre de Jeux 2024 programme: over 100 embassies already on board!
With 18 months to go until the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, over 100 French embassies and permanent representations across five continents have joined the Terre de Jeux 2024 programme!
In the run-up to the 2024 Paris Games, these embassies will play a major role in getting French nationals abroad and sports fans involved in the key events. They will thus contribute to the outreach of French sporting diplomacy and the sharing of the Games’ project with as many people as possible.
Strong commitment to the Terre de Jeux 2024 programme
By joining the Terre de Jeux 2024 community, French embassies are committing to 3 goals:
• Involve as many French people, French speakers and Francophiles as possible in the Paris 2024 project;
• Use the 2024 Paris Games to enhance France’s economic and cultural attractiveness and outreach;
• Build closer, permanent links between the diplomatic network and the international sports movement, including National Olympic Committees and National Paralympic Committees.
Across the Pacific, the Americas, Asia, Africa and Europe, many embassies are already working towards the 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games. During 2022, they organized dozens of projects in connection with the world’s biggest sporting event.
Many of them took part in sporting events in their countries of residence for Olympic Day on 23 June 2022 and Paralympic Day on 8 October 2022, such as in Slovenia, Kenya, the Philippines and Argentina.
Between January and September 2022, 22 embassies identified 257 candidates for the 2024 Paris Games volunteer programme. These volunteers, who between them speak over 20 languages, will make an immense contribution to the success of the Games.
The links between sport and culture were also in evidence in 2022 through the work of embassies, including through the “Champion.ne.s” photo exhibition, highlighting four athletes who have made strong social commitments: Marie-Amélie Le Fur, Aya Cissoko, Arnaud Assoumani and Patricio Manuel.

French embassies also helped implement the Olympic and Paralympic Week in French schools in the Agency for French Education Abroad (AEFE) network. In 2022, the network mobilized 63 schools and over 30,000 students.
Furthermore, four embassies hosted a stage of the Flag Tour in Europe this year: Belgium, Germany, Greece and Italy in December, where an event was organized in collaboration with the Milan-Cortina 2026 Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

Through the work of the diplomatic network, the global relay become the biggest highlight of the Terre de Jeux 2024 programme. On 6 April 2022, the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, 44 embassies and overseas territories staged a one-hour race from 9 to 10 a.m. (local time). Once the race was over, each participant handed over to the next time zone via social media.

• 22,000 km covered over 24 hours in 24 time zones,
• 31 sports on display
• 37 international athletes
The global relay showcased the diversity of sports and spread the Olympic Games adventure around the world.
The next global relay will take place on 14 March 2023, exactly 500 days before the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Games.
The diplomatic network’s strong involvement led to recognition from Paris 2024: In Montpellier on 13 December 2022, two embassies, in Eritrea and Benin, received a Terre de Jeux 2024 Trophy.
