Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Yves Le Drian is participating in today’s ministerial meeting of the Global Coalition against Daesh, which is being held in Marrakech.

The Minister will emphasize the need for the Global Coalition to continue its military and civilian efforts to respond to the ongoing threat posed by Daesh and will reaffirm France’s unwavering commitment to combating that terrorist organization. He will stress the importance of maintaining our priority commitment to the Global Coalition in the Eastern Mediterranean in order to bring about the lasting defeat of the organization, which remains disturbingly resilient in certain parts of Iraq and Syria.

The Minister will express his support for close synergy between the Coalition’s non-military activities in Africa and international efforts already under way to support the fight against terrorism on the continent in a way that takes into account the threat posed by all Jihadist groups, particularly Al Qaeda. He will underscore the absolute need to ensure that the challenges of the fight against terrorism are met in a way that is in compliance with international law and human rights and benefits civilian populations.

On the sidelines of this meeting, the Minister will meet with his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita, to discuss the extraordinary bilateral partnership between our two countries as well as regional and international issues of common interest.
