The Cooperation and Cultural Action Services and the network of Instituts Français and Alliances Françaises

The cooperation and cultural action services in coordination with French language schools implement embassies’ cooperation policy in the field of education. The aim is to increase the presence of the French language and expertise in local education systems.

The language component of this cooperation is conducted by the language centres of the Instituts Français and Alliance Françaises.

The other education cooperation programmes

France Éducation

France Éducation is a joint initiative of the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of National Education. It is part of the plan for developing the French language and multilingualism.

Developed by Qwant, tthe website, which will be put online in March 2019, will act as a clearinghouse for online education resources offered by the agencies of these two ministries. It will target teachers, trainers, apprentices and more generally everyone who would like to discover, start learning, or improve their knowledge of the French language.

Language assistants in France and abroad

Every year, some 6,500 young participants in the language assistant exchange programme run by International Centre for Educational Studies (CIEP) spend an academic year abroad, in a network of 60 partner countries, assisting language teachers and sharing their culture with students.

Foreign language assistants from some 50 countries come to France to provide support in foreign language courses given in the French education system, while French assistants abroad provide support in French language courses in foreign education systems.

French-as-a-foreign-language master’s programmes

Participants in this programme offered by the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs teach French in foreign schools for up to nine months.

The positions offered are organized by French embassy services in the country concerned.
